Odd proxy problem?

Post by tsaman »

Hello--

Server: Windows 2003
OS: Windows 98
MSIE V60 with updates.

I'm running both executable and ini file on the server. The browser always comes up, I always get to see the policy file, but after I accept it I sometimes fail to load the home page and am unable to go elsewhere.

While waiting to time out there is an odd display in the lower left hand corner of the browser: "Finding site: hon," with the "o" having a lateral slash through it--almost like some sort of escape character.

Sometimes, but not always, the Internet Settings then show that the proxy is set to "hon" even though I'm using the pwb.ini file on the server to set it to my local proxy.

I have not installed PWB locally, but am just running a shortcut to the executable on the server.

This has me confused as it's very intermittent, but bad enough to be disruptive. Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks

I recall a problem with spyware awhile back, that referred to a site called "thehun" or something similar - have you run any anti-spyware programs on the machine in question?

Just a guess :)
