Syndetics windows open under others....

Post by cmegal »

We use Syndetics to provide additional information on books. The first window opens on top, but each succesive window opens under the second one. I have a patron that is, in the words of the librarian, "a forceful complainer." Any help on this one would be appreciated :D

It looks to be a timing issue. When the parent window (first pop-up) is clicked it opens another pop-up. The parent window is then refreshed. When the parent window is refreshed it gains the focus. I can change the timing or the point in time the window receives the focus to see if we can correct this issue.

We will be begining to try to resolve this issue. Anybody wishing to do testing and provide feedback on this issue please email support@teamsoftwaresolutions.com.

Thank you for your time and support of PWB.

I am working with Syndetics as well. Is there any update on this problem?
Thanks much. --Laura

I have heard Syndetics will be releasing a new interface that does not use pop-ups.

I heard directly from Syndetics they are moving away from pop-ups. This however does not correct the overall problem PWB is having with the IE Web Browser control changing the focus, and we are continuing to work on the problem.

Scott,

Glad to hear you're still working on this one 8)

My opinion on Syndetics in general is still up in the air, our web catalog is slow as molasses the way it is, and adding all the extra "flair" just makes it even slower.

I believe have the Syndetics problem fixed in PWB v2.05r2 and PWB v2.06.

Timing problem.

My problem looks very similar. Here's the senario. User clicks on a "request" button, that window goes to a warning explaining that the user may have to wait and if he's running XP SP2 he will need to set his pop-ups. Meanwhile we have a pop-up log on screen appear, after that takes place the original screen does a "back". At this point the original screen is usually (not always) in front and the user thinks the log-on screen is not coming up. Of course IE and Mozilla don't have this problem (please don't make me go back, I've been using PWB far to long to deal with IE again ;-)). Anyway, any thoughts on this?

Oops, BTW I was running 2.04 when the problem was pointed out, I upgraded to 2.06 which didn't help and then tested with 2.05 after reading this thread. They all have the same problem. Thanks..

We are pleased to announce we have a fix for the PWB problem with focus and Syndetics.

http://www.teamsoftwaresolutions.com/beta/PWBv207r3.zip

Please feel free to test it and let me know if it works for your site. If we do not find any bugs in this version we will be officially releasing it by May 31, 2005.

Thank you for your patients.
