Greetings,
I've tried to summarize for myself the restricted save options in the latest version of PWB 2.08. The support forum entries aren't doing the trick for me.
Does the ini entry for RestrictedSave have any use anymore? Does that tie into Download Directories in any fashion?
Should I just be using built-in features of WinXP Pro to restrict where folks can save files?
Thanks,
JP

JP,
The restricted save section in the PWB v2.08+ INI file only affects the File Save as menu items, this has nothing to do with the file downloads. The restricted downloads was removed in an earlier version of PWB v2 because it had to many problems.
The downlaod and save directories in the INI file only set the initial save location for the Internet Explorer Save as dialog.
The Windows Group Policies have been used with good success in restricting the Internet Explorer Save as dialog.
See the following post for resitrciting the IE Save as dialog with Group Policies.

Is there any way to get everything in My Computer to show up when you click File, Save As? I have restricted access through Group Policy to everything the users shouldnt be accessing, leaving the CDRW and Floppy Drives(and possibly USB drive). I would ideally like these to be shown as options when the user is brought to the save as dialog box.
PWB uses the Internet Explorer Save As dialogs when saving web pages and downloading files from the Internet. Internet Explorer remembers the last place that was saved to and usually defaults to this. I do not think there is anyway to default this to My Computer, because My Computer is not a valid folder.

PWB passes the request onto Internet Explorer when saving web pages or downloading files. When you have the default directories set in the INI file, PWB sets the Internet Explorer Save Directory and Download Directory in the Windows registry. The Internet Explorer Download dialog is able to have "My Computer" as the starting directory, however the Internet Explorer Save Web Page dialog can not be have "My Computer" as the starting directory.
This can be demonstrated by setting the CLSID of "My Computer" in the Internet Explorer Save Directory in the registry. Internet Explorer will not open to "My Computer", but will open to "My Documents" instead.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "Save Directory"="::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"
As a work around, set the Save As directory to a non-removable drive, for example the "D" drive, and create read only shortcuts to the other locations in the directory. This will allow patrons to choose the location from the shortcuts. It may help to have the shortcuts named something easy such as "A: Floppy Drive (Click here to save to a diskette)", "F: Flash Drive (Click here to save to USB flash drive)".
