ManageDL and PWBmanageDL

Post by sraymond »

Hi;
Can you answer a couple of questions about ManageDL and PWBmanageDL?
1. Would you recommend the use of one over the other?
2. Can it be set so that the default download directory is either A:\ or E:\?
thanks!

Both have a flaw in they will not work with web sites that use cookie security such as Hotmail or Yahoo.

A better option is to use Windows Policies to restrict the IE Save Dialog.

We have a server and use group policies to pretty well protect C:\ and the network. Tdownload manages the saving of web pages beautifully. The one remaining problem we have is that when one is in our online catalog, or searching our databases, when one tries to use the save feature, the very first place one is brought to is A:\, which is fine, but if you don't have a floppy in the drive and hit cancel at that point, when you go back to the dropdown, your are right there on our server in the PWB directory, and from there you can drill up or down pretty much anywhere in our network. You cannot write or delete, but it's still unsettling. I figure it's because in the saving process, It is remembering the last place it saved to and throwing that out there. I am trying to find the group policy or even a registry hack that would thwart that.
thanks for any guidance you can offer.

If you set up a network share where patrons can write to, you can have a startup script map the drive and start the Save As there. For example we use a share that is mapped as the "F" drive. Patrons can save large files there if they want, and we can transfer the files to a CD or Memory stick from a staff computer. We just clear this share every night to keep it clean. They also have the option to save to the floopy if they want as well. The problem with the floppy, is not to much is fitting on them anymore.
