HideGUI

Post by Scott »

Now testing HideGUI.

http://www.teamsoftwaresolutions.com/beta/HideGUI.zip

HideGUI runs the Public Web Browser (PWB) add-on PWBHideWindowsGUI as a standalone application to hide the Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI). This is useful to keep the GUI hidden even if PWB is restarted.

In order for HideGUI to work correctly, the PWBHideWindowsGUI.DLL and PWBHideWindowsGUI.INI file must reside in the same folder as the HideGUI.EXE file.

Add the following to the PWBHideWindowsGUI.INI file to configure HideGUI.

[HideGUI]
TimeToShow=1000
Password=Exit
ToolTip=
ShowSplash=False
SplashMessage=Please wait...

TimeToShow=1000
Time to show splash dialog in miliseconds.
Password=Exit
Case sensitive password to exit.
ToolTip=
Tooltop shown on Task Tray icon.
ShowSplash=False
Shows or hide splash dialog.
SplashMessage=Please wait...
Message on splash dialog.

Password to exit HideGUI can be accessed through double clicking the Task Tray icon and entering password, or by using the PWBHideWindowsGUI override Ctrl- F12 if the overrides are enabled in the PWBHideWindowsGUI.INI file.

[Keys]
...
EnableOverrides=True

If these settings as not not in the PWBHideWindowsGUI.INI file the above are the default values HideGUI will use.

The HideGUI application will minimize to the Task Tray after starting. If the Task Tray is visible, you can double click the HideGUI icon and enter the password to exit HideGUI and restore the Windows GUI.

See the PWB add-on PWBHideWindowsGUI for more information.

Please email Support@TeamSoftwareSolutions.com for questions or problems using HideGUI.

Please note: The Windows Group Policy "Hide and disable all items on desktop" allows the Start Menu to display when the Desktop is Double Clicked.

This is a great little utility for others considering using it.

As an additional suggestion....*email snippet*

Hi Scott,
I have a question in regards to the HideGUI application. Would it be possible to have DISABLE RIGHT CLICK within the OS as an option? Even outside that of the PWB browser?

As you know there are many context menus and options that appear with right click. I know right click can be disabled within the PWB browser, but we’re wanting to allow partial access to a secondary partition on the systems that patrons can download to.

Right click on the toolbars within explorer is causing us headaches.

The options are
STANDARD BUTTONS
ADDRESS BAR
LINKS
LOCK THE TOOLBARS
CUSTOMIZE

Any thoughts Scott?

Thanks,
John

Sounds like a good idea. It should be no problem to add disabling right click support to the application.

I will post an update when it is ready.

I posted a new HideGUI that includes an updated PWBHideWindowsGUI.dll that can disable the right mouse button.

Please let me know if this works as expected.
