"Search" button on page makes PWB ignore blocked U

On: http://findit.emp.state.or.us:8765/

If "the Internet" is chosen, a seach term is entered, and the "search" button pressed, then PWB shows the search results on hotbot.com even thought hotbot.com is blocked in my URL blocking list.

The "Warning: Access Denied" dialog does pop up, but since the hotbot.com page has loaded, patrons can click on links to browse out into the open Internet.

Why does PWB ignore the URL blocking list when the "search" button is pressed? Is this fixed in 2.06r2?

If the search is for something that is in your approved URL list and it is appended to the URL PWB will allow it.

For example:

URL list:

...
+library
...

Search engine URL:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=library

To prevent this you will need to narrow your URL list. Adding "http://" to the listed urls will usually prevent this.

My URL access list begins with +all and then lists sites to block. If I have "-hotbot.com" in this list, shouldn't PWB prevent any page with "hotbot.com" it's URL from opening?

By that same point, wouldn't adding "-http://" to the list prevent any web pages from opening?

The way you have it set up it sounds like it should block the site. If your URL filter file is not to large please post it here if you wish so we can take a look at it. Otherwise send a copy to Support@TeamSoftwareSolutions.com.

What seems to be happening is the site is opening a page that is bringing in Hotbot. When you click the search button the following URL is reported to PWB.

"http://findit.emp.state.or.us:8765/quer ... &rq=0&si=1"

I will keep looking into this problem.
