Access to IE through Windows Explorer

Post by sheres54tea »

When using the Disable IE DLL, we've encountered a strange problem:

After disabling IE, accounts with "Administrator" privileges are unable to use IE, and the IE window automatically closes. However, other accounts at the "restricted user" privileges level are able to use IE, even though the Administrator accounts cannot.

Is this a bug, or something that can be worked around? Thanks.

Do you only use one account for public logon, or multiple accounts? We have a local account on each computer that is used for public access. That account has ManageIE installed on it. No matter how you try to get to Internet Explorer, as soon as it switches to web page mode (i.e. you're in file Explorer and type in a web address) *poof* it's gone.

Hope that helps!

We use two accounts for public logon, both domain accounts. We ran ManageIE under both accounts with local admin privileges, and IE is inaccessible, but when we switched the accounts back to restricted users, nd logon as such, IE is accessible. Strange.

Are the profiles romaing or manditory profiles, Windows Policies in place or have Anti-Spyware software that would prevent Internet Explorer (IE) Browser Helper Object (BHO) from running?

ManageIE runs as an IE BHO, if the profile is overwriting the following registry location, or you have software to prevent IE BHOs from running, ManageIE will not work.

HKLM SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{A11DD43E-0864-4B8B-9A9C-E64464C99A09}
