inactivity reboot with screensaver?

Post by dgh »

I have version 2.08 of Public Browser running on Win 2K with a touchscreen monitor. I tested the inactivity reboot successfully. Ideally my kiosk would reboot every 12 hrs in case the internet connection was lost and to also clear the cache on PB close. However, to avoid screen burn-in on my touchscreen, and as a way to attract users, I need to have a screensaver activated. (I'm simply using the regular windows shell screensaver).

Unfortunately the PB doesn't consider the screensaver "browser inactivity", and the computer never re-boots.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Works Now

It appears "ResetOnMouseMove" under the Inactivity section is the culprit. Evidently PB thinks screensaver activity is equivalent to mouse movements, so when ResetOnMouseMove is set to "True"... the inactivity process (reboot in my case) never occurs. It works as expected when both ResetOnMouseClick and ResetOnKeyboard are set to True.

Actually I may try using the Activity timer instead, anyway. That way I can specify a reboot after 12 hours of continuous computer operation regardless of browser usage.

Have you considered using the "AT" command in conjunction with the "SHUTDOWN" command to reboot the computers at a specific time?
