--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
Our library has been using an older version of Netscape and making use of 'proxy lists' under the Preferences section.
I essentially want to set that up using Public Web Browser V2.
Here is what I have for this section
I am going through the INI File and am in the 'Proxy' section.
UseCustom = True
Proxy Enable = True
Proxy Server - (entered it)
Proxy Override=False
AutoConfigURL=??? (I haven't set a url with the proxies - is this necessary instead of just entering the proxies? If so how do I go about that?)
What's the best way to go about this?
Thanks
proxy list

Go to internet options -->Click on the Connections Tab--->LAN Settings-->check off Use a Proxy Setting under Proxy Server, then click the Advanced button. Here you type in a nane (like Catalog) in the HTTP field, and at the bottom is where you put your URL's to allow in the exceptions box.
Hope this helps,
Philip

Hello Phillip,
Thanks for your answer. That did help.
However, it has led to some more questions...
I did what you said and then entered the addresses which I wish to limit patrons to. Unfortunately it doesn't appear as no site will load.
Here is what I have in the {proxy} section.
UseCustom=True
ProxyEnable=True
Proxy Server=192....
Proxy Override= (our homepage)
AutoConfigURL= (left blank.)
In the actual Internet Explorer Section titled 'Proxy Settings' I have the Proxy Server Address and Port Number. The Use same proxy server for all protocols is 'checked' and the Exceptions Section lists our the addresses I want patrons to have access to..
Please let me know if you have any suggestions as to what I've done wrong here...

You should use one of the techniques not both. If you set the proxy via the Internet options, then do not use the INI options or vice versa. When using the INI, PWB will overwrite the settings in the registry that you set via the Internet Options.
You should leave the proxy override blank unless you do not want to use the proxy server for the specified site.

ok - so if I have added a 'proxy list' to the internet explorer proxy settings screen, should the enitre Proxy section in the ini file have 'blank values?"
Because right now, if I remove the 'Proxy' Check for the Proxy Server to be used , I'm able to view any website including those I want to eliminate access to. However if I check it, I'm not able to see any site. wanted or not wanted.
Thanks.

We do not use a proxy, so I am not the best person to be answering this question. you may want to look at this web site.

If you are trying to filter web pages, PWB has a built in URL filter.

gene,
I would just use IE's proxy, it makes it a lot easier (no reflection on PWB BTW). Set the proxy in the .INI file to false or the defaults, and just set up IE's proxy. Make sure when you add any addresses into the exceptions box that you separate them with a semi-colon. I believe I have the ''Use the same proxy for all protocols checked off but im not sure. Don't forget to put something in the HTTP field. The website that Scott provided is to Andrew Mutch's website which is where I learned to. It's a good site. Email me if you are still having problems.
