Setpwb and shell mode

Post by JohnE »

Hi all,
I was testing several of the anti-IE programs you have and created a problem for myself.
While testing setPWB I set it as a shell for a profile. Now if I log that profile all I get is PWB, all programs are gone.
How do I remove the shell setting from the profile?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I believe you'll have to open up that user's registry from a different (administrator) account and change the setting.

There are several ways to remove PWB as the Windows shell.

From antoher computer, use RegEdit to open the remote Windows Registry and change the following locations.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\system.ini\boot
Shell=SYS

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell=Explorer.exe

If you have access to Task Manager, start Explorer.exe. Then run SetPWB and restore the Shell.

Enable the PWB Shellbar and add SetPWB as Shellbar icon. This will enable you to run SetPWB as the user that has PWB as the shell.

I beleive if you delete the Windows profile and let Windows recreate it it will restore Explorer as the Windows shell.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the responses.
I actually just went ahead and re-imaged the machine as it was only a test computer.
Good to know what to do the next time i do this.
