Difference Between IP.txt and URL.txt Files

Post by Guest »

Can someone please explain the difference between the IP.txt file and the URL.txt files and what they do? I thought the IP.txt file was to block or enable specific IP addresses however, when I tested this it did not work.
I added the IP address to the URL.txt file and it worked.

TIA,

Dan

This IP filter is similar to the URL filter. The IP filter takes the URL, converts it to an IP, and compares it to the list. See the following post for information on the PWB filters.

IP and URL Filters

Does this mean that if you want to deny (or allow a website) you enter either the IP or URL string in the file? So if you wanted to deny "hotmail.com" you don't have to also include the IP address in the IP.txt file?

Thanks,

Dan

You can use either the URL or the IP file, or both together. The URL file is checked for access first, then the IP file.
