Exit Key Combo

Post by wgragg »

We are hitting a problem with getting the VMWare View Client to transmit the standard shift-ctrl-alt-insert combo to the virtual machine running PWB in prep for our thin clients. Is there any way of changing the key combo to another one that VMware View Client will transmit.

For future reference, does anyone here use thin clients and are they able to send the proper key combo to exit PWB from the clients?

Thanks,
Wendell

Our catalogs are Wyse C10LE and V10LE thin clients connecting to VMWare View. The VMs open PWB 2 in kiosk mode. I set it up a few years ago, but I do not recall having to do anything special for the default key combo to work in PWB.

Good luck.

That is strange, because when I am logged in through VMWare View from my desktop, the key combo does not work. It works fine in Remote Desktop. I don't have a thin client with which to test it yet though.

We can add setting to the INI to enable a System menu option to open the Overrides dialog in PWB v3. This would negate the need to send the Ctrl-Alt-Shift + Insert keys to open the Overrides dialog.

Please let me know if this would help.

Thanks Scott. I'm not sure I understand how it would work.

PWB v3.03.7 now available on the Beta Downloads page has the functionality added, although it is unlisted.

Using PWB v3.03.7 add the following to your INI file.

[MenuItems]
Overrides=Overrides

This will add "Overrides" to the system menu.

Ahh, I see. Well, we run in secure and kiosk mode, so we pretty much have the system menu disabled.

I'm thinking this is a VMWare View Client thing as I can send the key sequence through Remote Desktop. I was just hoping there would be a way to define alternate keys so I can see if I can find a combo that VMWare VC would accept.

We can add an alternate key combination easily enough, any suggestions?

Thanks Scott. I'm waiting for some clarification from the guy who is helping me with this to see if we can install the new beta.

Scott, the change to the ctrl-f4 worked well! Thanks for implementing it!
