Just recently, we've been having a problem when trying to open downloads directly from PWB. For example, if I attempt to download a Word document that is an attachment in Yahoo mail, if I select "Open" from the "File Download" dialog, when Word opens, it gives me an error message. I've attached that message. If I save the file and then open it from the saved location, the file opens without any problem. This only appears to be affecting documents associated with Office 2016 (Word, Excel, etc.).
PWB: 2.11.9
Office: Office 2016 Professional
OS: Windows 7 w/ SP1 - 64 bit

Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
If you use Internet Explorer on the same computer logged on as the same user does the file open in Internet Explorer?

Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
Yes. I should have mentioned that in my initial post. IE 11 and PWB appear to use different file dialogs.
Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
You tested Internet Explorer 11.0 and not the Edge browser correct?
You could update to PWB v3 CEF and use the [Security]CheckExecuteAccess functionality to download, filter, and open the file in the associated application.

Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
IE 11 - These computers are still on Windows 7 so no Edge browser.
Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
I just tested this problem with this release of PWB v3.04.5 basic (IE) Internet Explorer Rendering Engine. It has the exact same problem. The problem does not affect IE when opening files. You can see from the attached image how IE handles file downloads. It uses a different dialog. I don't get any error messages from Word when I open files using this dialog.

What happens when you click the "Open" button?

Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
It attempts to open the file in Word 2016 and then Word generates the error that I shared at the top of the thread.

This is why I switched to Firefox, it's much better.amurtch wrote:It is recommended to use Testoprime when attempts to open the file in Word 2016 and then Word generates the error that I shared at the top of the thread.

Re: Downloads won't open directly from PWB
Firefox may be a better for a browser when used at home where access to the local computer is of no concern. Public Web Browser (PWB) as the name implies is a secure web browser for use as Public Access Computers and is not really a good fit for home use.
