Printer limits

Post by Larryj »

8) One thing the library personnel would like to do is restrict the ability of patrons to change or add a printer. This would mean that the printer properties would somehow have to be restricted. In PWB, the print preview window allows access to the printer properties. Is there any way to lock down the printer properties? We use XP on the machines in question.

Locking down printers is a Windows XP function I believe. I don't think PWB has that capability but Scott will answer I'm sure.
I have used the windows registry to prevent the deletion or addition of printers using registry "hacks" from here: www.winguides.com

As far as restricting patrons from clicking that Printers Properties button, possibly a third party software program like Cooler from Fortres Grand Corporation might help.

Hope this helps,

Philip

Larry,
Try clicking on the Advanced search and type in "no add printer" in the search field. Make sure you have Registry database selected from the pull down menu. Then try searching for "delete printer".

Hope this helps,

Philip
