Our library catalog requires that we use utf-8 encoding with Arial Unicode MS font to display foreign language diacritics and characters (Chinese, and others). Since this font is not in the Windows\Fonts folder, Verdana becomes the default font.
On my machine, I have no problem viewing the diacritics/characters properly with the Verdana font, even though it is not recommended. PWB displays the characters as blocks. Why is this? And, is there any way to get around this problem? I temporarily added the Arial Unicode font to the PWB machine and everything appeared normally. Other than installing MS Office on all our online catalog machines, can anything be done?
Any advice?

You do not need to install Office on the computers but you do need the fonts. You can obtain the original Microsoft "TrueType core fonts for the Web" form the link below.
