Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8

Post by Scott »

PWB has been fully tested and found to work with Windows 7, both 32 and 64 bit, and IE 8.

PWB and IE8

Post by srussell »

Does this mean that there is now support for tabbed browsing in PWB? We are an acedemc institue that need to have the security of PWB but need to offer tabbed browsing to our camous community

Any Assistance would be great...

Thank you

PWB v2 was designed to be a simple browser for OPAC systems.

PWB v3 was being developed to use tabs, however this has been put on hold in favor on Chrome Moly.

If you want or need tabs you should check out Chrome Moly.

We recently upgraded some computers to Win 7 64 bit. We run PWB in kiosk mode and we noticed that when a search is done from our home page, the window that pops up immediately goes to the background.

I've gone into the IE settings/Security and set Launching Applications & Files to enable (which Windows deplores and whines at you endlessly) and this has not changed the behavior.

Is there something else I am missing? Prior to changing the security settings, the links that open up the same window as the search function would go to the background, but changing the security fixed that. Alt+Tab can get you to that window, but apparently I'm the only one who knows about that :-/

Do you have the always on top set for either the [Browser] or [SecondWindow] sections?

Please note, using PWB 64 bit can cause issues with some web sites. In Windows 64 bit Internet Explorer 32 is ran unless you open IE 64 bit specifically. Many web sites are not compatible with IE 64.

Thank you Scott. I have the browser always on top set at false and the second window set at true.

I haven't opened up IE 64 bit on these computers, but I will give that a try.

If you use the 64 bit version of PWB it will use the 64 bit version of Internet Explorer.

Just remember some web sites do not work well with the 64 bit Internet Explorer which PWB 64 uses.
