HideGUI and Vista/Win7

Post by BPLAlex »

In Vista (and presumably Win7), HideGUI does not hide the Orb or disable the Start key.
In combo with PWB, this has been very handy in our XP-based library catalog kiosks.
Is there some alternative for locking down Start functions that is recognized by our community which accomplishes the same thing for Vista/Win7 PCs?

Thanks,
A.

I found something, tried it and it works to disable Start menu and key.

Still would like to hear if there is something better, more trustworthy, whatever.

Not quite solved

Post by BPLAlex »

Well, Startkiller lacks completeness as a solution: If you hold the pointer over where the Start Orb would be on the Taskbar, then click, the Start menu comes up just as if the Orb was there! Yes, the Start key is disabled, but that's not enough.

So I still need to find something that will completely disable and password-protect access to the Start menu.

Removing all the stuff you can from the advanced properties of the Start menu still leaves things like logoff, switch users etc.

Any ideas, please share. Most appreciated!

HideGUI works with Windows Vista/7, you just need to hide the Start button as well as the Taskbar.
