Another PWB and Acrobat question

Post by Guest »

We are using v2 in our library and notice that when patrons access pdf files online and try to return to a previous page, the computer freezes up. This seems to happen often. Any ideas as to how we can resolve this?

I am using a piece of software called Adobe Reader Speedup from http://www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk/prods/misc/ which basicly allows you to turn off a lot of the adobe reader plugins which dos two things. 1 - it really speeds up the loading of the reader and 2 - I found that the majority of freese-ups due to adobe in my public access computers have really dwindled. It does work with the latest version of Adobe.

I found Acrobat Reader v6 to be buggy with sporadic freeze ups. I've had no reports of pdf problems since upgrading to v7. It might be worth a try...

I tried that utility and didn't find it any faster. Plus, if you are using acrobat 7 and above, the utility disables the ability to actually fill-in a form, like a tax form for instance.
