Blocking Google Chat (but NOT gmail)

Post by Jay »

Has anyone managed to do this?

I can't find any obvious URL link, have added chat, talk, message etc to the URL.TXT file to no avail.

Is it possible to block ports via PWB?

I am led to believe Google Chat uses Ports 5222 or 443.

Regards,
Jay

If you can not block the ports at the hardware level, and you are using Windows XP SP 2 you can use the Windows Firewall to block the offending ports.

It looks like Google Chat is a web based applet, so if blocking the ports does not stop it you will need to block the page that contains the chat.

Scott,

Thanks for replying. I will try your suggestion regarding ports/firewall as unfortunately I can't block the URL to google mail/chat applet entirely.

Jay

Resolve chatenable.mail.google.com to loopback 127.0.0.1

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answ ... swer=34330

I think there is also a google talk gadget. Can't remember the URL for this one.
